The chart shows the percentages of the areas of the seven continents in the Earth's Surface area and the percentage of the population of each continent in the total population of the world.來(lái)源:www.examda.com
Among the seven continents, Asia is the biggest, occupying 30% of the land area of the Earth while Africa is the second, occupying 20%. Together the two continents make up half of the earth's surface area. Of the remaining five, the biggest is North America, with a percentage of 16, the second is South Africa, with a percentage of 12. Antarctic and Europe cover 9% and 7% of the Earth's surface area respectively; and the oceania is the smallest continent in the world, covering only 6 percentage.
The population of the world is not evenly disttributed on the seven continents. More than half of the people of the world, 58%, live in Asia and 16% live in Europe; whereas the total population of the remaining five makes up only 26%. The most densely populated area, however, is not Asia but Europe, which coveers seven percent of the land area of the world but contains 16% of the world's population. The other extreme is Antarctic, which occupies 6% of the earth surface area but is not inhabited at all. If Antarctic is taken as an exception, then the most sparsely populated area should be Oceania, which covers 6% of the land area of the world but contains only one percent of the world's population.來(lái)源:www.examda.com
From the chart, we can know that though the world as a whole is threatened by the problem of an ever-growing population, overpopulation is not a problem for all the countries. This explains partly why some countries are rying very hard to control the incease of population and some other countries are encouraging people to have more children or doing nothing at all about brith control.
