August 8, 2008 is a big day for China. The 29th Olympic Games will open on this day in Beijing.
The Olympic Games are a big sports party every four years. It’s the first time for China to host them. We welcome everyone in the world to come and enjoy the Games.
The Games run from August 8 to 24. It’s a time for the world to see China. It’s also a chance for us to see the world.
We are ready. And we are looking forward for the big day.
Torch 火炬
What is on the torch? Clouds. “祥云”是中國文化符號。What is the shape of the torch? 它看起來像一個紙卷軸。紙是中國四大發(fā)明之一。

Mascots 吉祥物
They have the same colors as the five Olympic rings (奧運五環(huán)). They are all good at sports. 它們各自的體育強項是什么呢？See pages 8-9.

獎牌正面是奧委會統(tǒng)一規(guī)定的圖案——希臘勝利女神和古競技場。
The “Dancing Beijing” emblem is on the back of the medal. 獎牌背面還鑲嵌著中國玉。這是奧運歷第一次采用非金屬材質(zhì)制做獎牌。
