為了確保2008年北京奧運(yùn)會辦成安全的奧運(yùn)會（to ensure safe Olympics），有關(guān)場館將采取嚴(yán)格的安保措施（to take strict security measures），要做到萬無一失（to ensure foolproof security）。所有入口都將設(shè)有人身與車輛安檢口（security checkpoint at the access for personal and vehicles），每個比賽場館和訓(xùn)練館都有自己的安保指揮中心（security command center）。奧運(yùn)會期間，安保部門將為奧林匹克公園設(shè)置一道長達(dá)18公里，由很高的裝有紅外探測儀的鐵柵欄（a tall iron fence equipped with infrared detectors）構(gòu)成的警戒線（set up an Olympic Park security cordon）。同時，將有10萬名警察和60萬志愿者在比賽地點(diǎn)、賓館和街道巡邏。此外，還有一個由30萬個攝像頭組成的監(jiān)控網(wǎng)絡(luò)覆蓋整個北京。

中國人民解放軍總參謀部（the Headquarters of the General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army）也為確保奧運(yùn)會的安全進(jìn)行了周密的安排（making thorough arrangements），全力備戰(zhàn)（going all out to get prepared for the battle）。擔(dān)負(fù)奧運(yùn)會安保任務(wù)的部隊(duì)（concerned arms of the armed service）正在進(jìn)行緊張的實(shí)兵演練（undergoing concentrated combat training and exercise）和軍地聯(lián)合訓(xùn)練（joint exercise by the arm and civilians），特別是做好核、化、生武器檢查（check of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons），工程技術(shù)支援（engineering and technical support），救援和爆炸物搜查排除（rescue and search and removing of explosives）。我們在反恐（anti-terrorism）方面的努力更會確保奧運(yùn)會的安全。
國際刑警組織（the International Criminal Police Organization---INTERPOL）秘書長稱贊說，北京奧運(yùn)會的安保工作達(dá)到了標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。
