stair，stairs
這兩個(gè)詞僅差一字之微，但涵義并不相同。
Stairs是一道樓梯；stair是“樓梯或階梯的一級(jí)”，此字是英國(guó)英語British English；在美國(guó)和蘇格蘭，指樓梯或扶梯一級(jí)時(shí)，用step，不用stair。例：
Mrs．So stood on the top stair/step．
蘇太太站在樓梯的一級(jí)。
She is walking down the stairs．
她正走下樓梯／樓梯的梯級(jí)。
表達(dá)“五級(jí)樓梯”、“十級(jí)樓梯”等意時(shí)，人們一般說five steps和ten steps，以免與stairs（整個(gè)樓梯）混淆一起，故不說five stairs或ten stairs。順帶一提，梯子（ladder）的踏級(jí)稱為rung。
