Term是個多義詞，當它用以表達“術(shù)語”之意時，很易和另一名詞terminology混淆不清。
Term的涵義是“一種表示特定概念的詞語”，一般譯作“語”、“辭”、“字眼”、“言辭”。例如：grammatical terms（語法用語）；technical terms（專門名詞）；scientific terms（科技名詞）；homespun terms（粗俗的言語）；contemptuous terms（輕蔑的言辭）；legal terms（法律用語）。例：
Is“real estate”a legal term？
“房地產(chǎn)”（或不動產(chǎn)）是法律用語嗎？
That hooligan abused me in foul terms．
那個無賴用下流話罵我。
This proposal must be couched in fitting terms．

注：term除作名詞之外，尚可用作動詞。如：
They termed the gas “argon”．
