Poem
My Daughter
Dear daughter,
I’ve loved you from the very start.
You’re all I hoped a daughter would be,
and I hope that my love for you is clear for you to see.
I try so hard to say the things that I know you need to hear,
and not a day goes by
when I don’t wish that you were here.
And now I’m sending you this message
because I want you to know
that you’re the bright star in my life—
you’ve set my whole world aglow.
An English Song
Edelweiss
Edelweiss, edelweiss,
every morning you greet me.
Small and white, clean and bright,
you look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow,
bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, edelweiss,
bless my homeland forever.
Edelweiss, edelweiss,
every morning you greet me.
Small and white, clean and bright,
you look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow,
bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, edelweiss,
bless my homeland forever.

Just before giving a lavish(奢侈的) party at his estate(莊園), a tycoon(大亨) had his swimming pool filled with poisonous snakes. He called the guests to swim and announced: "To anyone who is brave enough to swim across this pool, I will give him the choice of one thousand acres(英畝) of my oil fields, or 10,000 heads of cattle, or my daughter's hand in marriage(婚姻)."
No sooner were his words spoken than a young man plunged in(投身進(jìn)去), swam across the pool and climbed out — unscathed(沒有受傷)but breathless(上氣不接下氣的).
"Congratulations(祝賀)!" the tycoon greeted(問候) him, "Do you want my oil fields?"
"No!" Gasped(喘粗氣) the guest.
"The 10,000 heads of cattle?"
"No!" The young man shouted.
"Well, how about my daughter's —"
"No!"
"You must want something," said the puzzled(困惑的) host.
"I just want to know the name of the guy who pushed me in!”
