英譯漢中的變化（ 2 ）——★用詞上的變化★
例一 ： Interest in historical methods has arisen less throughexternal challenge to the validity of history as an intellectual discipline and more from internal quarrels among historians themselves .(1999 年英譯漢真題 )
分析 ： less through ...... more than ...... 中的 through 和 from 都表示"因為"，這種用詞上的變化在英語中是非常普遍的。它們的字面意思是"更少是通過......更多是來自......"，相當(dāng)于漢語習(xí)慣表達(dá)法"與其說是因為......不如說是因為......"。注意 through 在此與 from 的意思完全一樣，是英語中典型的變化表達(dá)，譯文中使用兩個"因為"正好體現(xiàn)了漢語喜歡重復(fù)的特點。
例二 ： The behavioral sciences have been slow to change because the explanatory itemsoften seem to be directly observed and partly because other kinds of explanations have been hard to find. (2002 年英譯漢真題 )
分析 ： explanatory items 與 explanations 實際上是相同的意思，因為只有名詞意思相同的時候才有可能用 other 來修飾，兩個表達(dá)法都可譯為"（對行為的）解釋"。
此外，用詞上的變化還體現(xiàn)在劃線句子內(nèi)的用詞與其他句子（包括其他劃線句子和非劃線句子）的用法不一樣，這實際上是給翻譯提供的一個機(jī)會，如果劃線句子中的表達(dá)法好譯，則不用管其他表達(dá)法；如果碰上難譯的表達(dá)法，可從其他句子里尋找線索。

分析 ：句中名詞 man-machine integration 有一定難度，如果知道這個表達(dá)法，則直接翻譯成"人機(jī)-題化"或者"人機(jī)連接"，萬一不知道，這段話前面還有一個更加簡單，意思相同的表達(dá)法-- computer-human links , 我們可以充分利用。

分析 ： historical work 和 historical inquiry 都指文章中的 historical study （歷史研究），如果把 historical work 譯成"歷史工作"，把 historical inquiry 譯成"歷史詢問"。顯然是無法得分的。
例五 ： If the small hot spots look as expected ,that will be a triumph for yet another scientific idea,a refinement of the Big Bang call the inflationary universe theory . (1998 年英譯漢真題 )
分析 ： the inflationary universe theory 宇宙膨脹學(xué)說。 inflationary 不應(yīng)該理解成"通貨膨脹的"，因為"通貨"是經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)里面的名詞，而這篇文章與經(jīng)濟(jì)無關(guān)，因此只能理解成"膨脹的"。
總之，變化表達(dá)是英語的一大特點，我們要了解它，掌握它并利用好它，這不僅對做翻譯很重要，對寫作文乃至整個英語學(xué)習(xí)都很重要。
