On Pins And Needles
Definition: to be very nervous about something happening
在中文我們說很急切、很緊張地想知道某事進(jìn)行的情況，會(huì)用“如坐針氈”，而英文則說“如坐針釘”：Be on pins and needles. 當(dāng)你很緊張地等待某件事情的結(jié)果時(shí)，你可能就會(huì)on pins and needles,如：We're on pins and needles waiting to hear whether she got the job. 或者，當(dāng)你擔(dān)心可能會(huì)有壞事發(fā)生時(shí)，你也可能很緊張，膽戰(zhàn)心驚，不知如何是好，e.g. Dad lost his way today and it has him in such a bad mood that our whole family is on pins and needles. 其實(shí)，還有一個(gè)慣用語(yǔ)叫做 have pins and needles, （If someone has pins and needles in a part of their body they feel slight sharp pains in it, usually just after they have moved from being still in one position for a long time）.它和緊張沒什么關(guān)系，指的是因缺乏血循環(huán)，使身體某位部麻木而造成的不適感，也就是我們平常說的“發(fā)麻”，比如說 I've been sitting on my leg for the last hour and now I've got pins and needles in my foot.
