這兩個片語都有“聽”的意思，但詞義有細微的差異。
Listen to表示“靜靜地聽”的意思，多半用于已被聽見的場合。例：
Fellow students，you should listen to what the teacher says carefully．
同學(xué)們，你們要認真地聽老師講課。
We listen to Radio Hong Kong every morning．
每天早上我們收聽香港電臺。
Listen for表示“用心傾聽”之意，目的是要找出聲音來，多用于尚未聽到的場合。例：
Annie will come in any moment；we are all listening for her footsteps．
安妮可能隨時來到，我們大家都在側(cè)耳傾聽她的腳步聲。
We stood without the gate and listened for the sound of his voice，but in vain．
我們站在門外側(cè)耳傾聽他的說話聲，但一點也聽不到。
Listen in也表示“傾聽”的意思，但它專用以指“收聽無線電或廣播”。如：
I listened in to the President this morning．
