Put someone on the phone 這個(gè)片語就是說請某人聽電話. 例如你打電話找你女朋友, 結(jié)果女朋友的同事接了電話, 就開始跟你東扯西扯, 問你們昨天是不是吵架了啊? 什么時(shí)候要結(jié)婚啦, 這時(shí)如果你實(shí)在不想跟她講了, 就可以說, "Could you please just put her on the phone?" Your call will be answered in approximate 5 minutes" (我們所有的客服人員都在忙著服務(wù)他們的顧客, 請等五分鐘后, 就會(huì)有人接聽你的電話), 然后十分鐘過去了, "Please continue to hold, your call is very important to us." (請繼續(xù)等候, 你的來電對我們非常重要). 所以大家要知道, 老美基本上對這種無止境的等待是深惡痛絕的. 所以要記得, 如果人家打電話來, 千萬不要因?yàn)槁牪欢驼f, "Hold on", 然后就跑去求救兵, 這對打電話來的人是十分不禮貌的.
