Jo: In Real English, we look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.

Jo: And today’s slang word is ‘flop’ F-L-O-P flop
Sun Chen: 這個(gè)詞兒的本來(lái)意思就是撲通的一下倒下。
Jo: Yes, but here it’s a noun, used to talk about something which wasn’t very successful.
Sun Chen: 這么說(shuō)這個(gè)詞當(dāng)名詞使的時(shí)候，說(shuō)的是什么事兒不太成功。那都用這個(gè)詞兒說(shuō)哪些事兒不成功呢？
Jo: It’s often used to talk about entertainment – films, plays, pop songs and so on which weren’t very successful.
Sun Chen: 要想知道怎么來(lái)用這個(gè)俚語(yǔ)flop，我們來(lái)聽(tīng)聽(tīng)下邊這段。

Despite huge investment, the latest film from the production company was a complete flop in terms of box-office sales, and critical reviews.
