Officials in the Eastern India say ten million people have been affected by flooding and torrential monsoon rains. In the state of Assam and Bihar at least 38 people are known to have died. But Chief Administer of Assam said the army was using helicopters to drop release supplies to thousands of stranded villages. Sanjoy Majumder reports from Delhi.
"A summer's in India's northeast and officials say that tens of thousands people have been forced out of their homes after week of heavy rain and floods. Most of them are now placed in temporary relief camps. But many others are still trapped by rising flood waters. The floods have also damaged thousands of acres of farmland. The situation is equally bad in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, where nearly 5 million people have been affected, although the flood waters are said to be receding. And the Authorities in Bangladesh are trying to reach hundreds of thousands of people marooned out of their homes and villages where inundated by floods."
