??在閱讀中我們常會(huì)遇到含有"to one's＋情感名詞"這一結(jié)構(gòu)的句子，如：To my relief，my son's life was not in danger．（令我感到寬慰的是，我兒子的生命沒(méi)有危險(xiǎn)。）這種結(jié)構(gòu)表示由于某事的發(fā)生而刺激了我們的內(nèi)心世界，由此喚起某種情感。漢語(yǔ)意思為"令某人（喜、怒、哀、樂(lè)）的是……"或"使某人感到……"。這種結(jié)構(gòu)在使用中有以下特點(diǎn)：
??1．這種結(jié)構(gòu)在句中的位置比較靈活，既可在句首，也可在句中或句末。在它的前后可用逗號(hào)與句子其他成分隔開(kāi)，也可不用。例如：
??To my surprise，his painting won the prize．令我吃驚的是，他的畫(huà)得了獎(jiǎng)。
??The captain realized to his horror that the Titanic was sinking rapidly．船長(zhǎng)驚訝地意識(shí)到泰坦尼克號(hào)正在迅速下沉。
??He did the work to his manager's satisfaction．這項(xiàng)工作他做得使他的經(jīng)理滿意。
??能夠用于這種結(jié)構(gòu)中的情感名詞，除了上面例句中的詞外，還有：admiration，
??amusement，annoyance，despair，disgust， distress，happiness，puzzlement，joy，regret， shame，sorrow，astonishment，vexation等。
??2．在這種結(jié)構(gòu)中，情感名詞前?？梢杂胓reat，deep等形容詞修飾。例如：
??To my great joy，she said she would marry me．她說(shuō)她愿意和我結(jié)婚，這使我感到非常高興。

??3．在此結(jié)構(gòu)中介詞to前面也可以用程度副詞greatly或much來(lái)修飾。例如：

??5．遇到普通名詞或?qū)Ｓ忻~，可以用它們的's所有格形式，也可用"to the ＋情感名詞＋of＋名詞或代詞"的形式。例如：
??To everyone's surprise，his mad plan succeeded．令大家感到驚訝的是，他那狂妄的計(jì)劃成功了。
??To the surprise of everybody，the beggar took out a bag of gold．使每個(gè)人都大吃一驚的是，那個(gè)乞丐取出一袋金子。
