1. good sailor
當有人問 "Are you a good sailor?" 如果你以為是問你是否是個好水手，嘿嘿，那么，第一題你就中招了，其實，a good sailor 的含義是“不會暈船”。如果要表達“他是個好水手”的意思，一般會說：He is a skilled seaman.
What kind of sailor are you? 你暈船嗎？
I'm not much of a sailor. 我會暈船的。
2. wearing two hats
“戴兩頂帽子？”呵呵，又錯了。當有人跟你介紹說某個能人"wearing two hats", 那其實說他身兼兩職呢。
They are so shorthanded in the school that the schoolmaster has to wear two hats.
學(xué)校缺少人手，校長只好身兼兩職。
3. tighten the belt
我們來假設(shè)個場景，去年買的褲子，今年發(fā)現(xiàn)腰太粗了已經(jīng)塞不下去，剛下定決心要減肥，結(jié)果老外同事約飯局，想以實情告之，于是說："I'm afraid I can't make it. I want to tighten my belt." 呵呵，這下可鬧誤會了，在英美人的日常表達里，這句話的意思是指“經(jīng)濟拮據(jù)，要節(jié)約度日”的意思,跟本意可相去甚遠呢。
4. put somebody to sleep
跟老外說"I just put my daughter to sleep." 你其實想說“我剛哄我的女兒入睡了”，不過說出口可成了天大的錯誤哦，肯定會讓他大驚失色的，因為在英語中，put somebody to sleep 是“使人失去知覺”的意思，呵呵，估計老外要去叫警察了。

大家都知道，chew 是咀嚼的意思，fat 一般是指脂肪，那 chew the fat 是不是就是吃肉呢，這是我當初看到這個表達的反應(yīng)，如果你的想法跟我一樣，呵呵，那么你的錯誤也跟我一樣了，其實"chew the fat" 是指非“正式的閑談”，有這樣的含義也許是因為，以前人們聊天時旁邊通常會放點干肉之類的食物，邊吃邊海闊天空的閑聊，十分愜意吧。我們來看個例子：

我們坐在那兒喝酒聊天，一直到該回家的時候。
