Japanese tourists stood out for being polite and tidy, securing 35 percent more votes than the Americans who came second.
Swiss tourists were commended for being quiet and 1）considerate, unlike the Britons who were judged to be the fifth worst tourists because of rude behavior, noise and a miserly attitude to tipping.
Based on responses from 15,000 European 2）hoteliers, the survey carried out on behalf of travel Web site Expedia showed that the worst tourist nation was France, followed by India, China and Russia.

I work in Vancouver, Canada, in an extremely well-known and heavily visited area. Here's the 3）breakdown with the people that WE get everyday, from Best to Worst. （Keep in mind that these observations are GENERAL tendencies for different nationalities?Stereotypes? You bet!）
Japanese-yep, the article is correct. The Japanese are well behaved, polite, usually quiet until they see something ??kawaii', patient, travels in packs, happy, and friendly you have to pour hot coffee on them to make them just slightly annoyed.
Americans-generally happy go lucky, better tippers than most, usually in a chatty mood, particularly ones from the mid-west/southern states. Some are hesitant on revealing where they're from, I guess most of them still think Canada hates'em. （we really don't, even when we say we do）
British-“May I have a cup of tea, please?” They're probably the most polite and well brought up group of people we get. “Please” and “thank you”s are sprinkled throughout the conversation. British kids are well behaved than others. Not terrible tippers. Very 4）frugal. They can be loud in a large group, but generally very quiet in pairs. Diplomatic when there's a complaint.
Australians-similar as the British, thicker accent, slightly harder to understand. Nice people though, heavily 5）tanned, would not want to see them when they get older. More vocal than the British when there's a complaint.
Swiss/Scandinavians-we don't usually get too many visitors from here, but they're generally friendly if you engage them. They're usually very quiet and 6）discreet, easily 7）blend in and not to get noticed, nice tippers, well-educated, great common sense and well traveled. They're taller and fit. Frugal. Germans-Germans are a mixed bag. They can be difficult and 8）demanding when they get frustrated. Don't like to chat that much, which is understandable with the language barrier and all. They're one of the few Europeans that ask for discounts, bad tippers, frugal. Louder and more ?°determined?± sounding, direct and focused, 9）utilitarian, butch?reminds me of a typical farmer.
Italians/Spanish-LOUD! They can't stop talking, even worse in a group of more than three, have no problems expressing their feelings across the room, positively passionate, good mood, always in a hurry to get somewhere, don't like to line up. Nicely dressed, the men still do the pastel-sweater over the shoulder thing, fashionable sunglasses for the ladies. Love to ask for discounts and they're usually persuasive and charming. I think they all have 10）ADHD. Nice tippers. Heavy smokers.
Taiwanese-happy go lucky nice people, not very well dressed, odd fashion sense, easily excited like the Japanese, down to earth, cheap and calculating, everything is about price and quantity. They smell like 11）mothballs. They don't tip at all, not well traveled. Can be quiet loud in groups, but very quiet as a couple.
French-don't get too many French people, they can be 12）snobby and demanding, some area very well dressed. They're sorta a mix between the Germans and Italians. They seem to be pissed off all the time.
East Indians-of course, the ENTIRE three-generation family travels together, bad tippers, cheap, generally very happy people, very loud in groups. East Indian children are poorly behaved, and the parents don't see it, skewed sense of time.
Korean-they have money, but they're cheap, carries lotsa cash around. LOUD! The older ladies love those Korean-only sun 13）visors, large 70's style sunglasses; the guys are loud and 14）belligerent. They like to share food and drinks （buy one and split among five friends）, and they're the only nation that drink hot coffee through straws. They sound angry all the time, very demanding, very short tempered. Heavy smokers. Don't take no for an answer. Don't wanna get them angry or they'll bite your head off.
Mainland Chinese-LOUD, unworldly, most have never traveled outside China. They 15）fart and 16）burp in public and they don't make any attempts to hide it. The men are very poorly dressed, VERY heavy smokers, poor manners and common sense. Like the Taiwanese, everything is about price and quantity. They generally carry tons of cash with them. They travel in packs now and it'll only be a matter of time before they're let lose individually. The men still spit, although it has dramatically decreased in recent times.
Americans （bad ones）-okay, they were second, and also the last. Partly because they can complain about something very easily in English, so they do it. The biggest complaint we get is about currency; here in Canada, we give out change in Canadian dollars when they use US money, something they can't understand and get belligerent when they see non-US currency coming back. Americans are the fattest and loves diet coke. Americans are also the most inconsistent in terms of manners, some are quite nice, others are rude like I'm their slave.
