A： I'm sorry, Dylan, but I have to cancel our date this weekend. My parents are coming this Saturday.

B： Oh！ No problem. I can take a rain check.
B： 沒關系。我們可以改期。
"rain check" 其實是像比賽等因為下雨而延期, 大會發(fā)給觀眾用來換取下次入場卷的憑證。在美國, 如果遇到拍賣（on sale）的物品賣光了, 同樣可以要求填寫 "rain check".當新貨到后, 商家可以通知你, 讓你以拍賣價把東西買回家。平常生活中, 如果你因故必須取消某個邀約, 對方也許也愿意要求一張 "rain check" 喔！
2. blah, blah, blah …… 點點點……
A： So, I heard you went out with that chick last night.
A： 我聽說你昨晚跟那個漂亮小妞出去了。
B： Yep. And, let me tell you, she really likes talk. She told me about her sister, her mother, her dogs, blah, blah, blah……You know, she literally talked my ears off.

B： Personally, I think it's a flop.
B： 就我個人來說, 我覺得我它蠻失敗的。
"flop" 還可用來形容撲通（掉下、摔下）的動作。我有一只愛撒嬌的胖貓； 牠常常跑到我面前, 忽然撲通倒地, 要我?guī)退Χ嵌?。此時我就可以用 "flops down on the floor" 來形容它。
4. tailgate （開車時）緊跟在后
A： I wish the person （car） behind us could stop tailgating us.
A： 真希望我們后面那個人（那部車）可以不要再緊跟我們。
B： I know. That's annoying.
B： 對??！ 好討厭。
大家大概都有被人緊跟在后, 有時外加大燈 （headlights） 追趕的經(jīng)驗吧！ 有時碰到這種情形, 我反而開得更慢。 對方氣炸了, 就超車過來, 給我中指 （giving the middle finger）。
5. get the picture 心里明白、有個大概的輪廓
A： I talked to the lawyer today. He said it didn't look good.
A： 我今天跟律師談過了。他說, 事情看來不大好。
B： I know. I've already got the picture.
B： 我知道。我已經(jīng)心里有數(shù)。
美國人口語中把 "have got" 的 "have"省略而單用"got" 的情形很普遍。如： I got an idea. 我有個主意。You got to see a doctor. 你必須要去看醫(yī)生。
