2.現(xiàn)在進行時的一種特殊用法
一般情況下,現(xiàn)在進行時就是表示眼下正在發(fā)生的事情,但是,有時候,這種意境會被有所夸大,從而賦予了它一種特殊的含義。
示例1:Everyone is losing money these days.(其實丟錢的人還是少數(shù)的,但對于說話者來說,可能聽到丟錢的事情好幾次了,所以,就夸大了一點,變成了人人、隨時隨刻都在丟錢了!)
示例2:She is always eating.(always一般是與一般現(xiàn)在時配合使用的,但這里很清楚,是與現(xiàn)在進行時配合;其實呢,這個she不可能是什么時候都在吃東西的,但說話者夸大之下我們也可以悟出一些道理來,那就是這個人吃東西的頻率還是很高的!)
3.關于It could be worse.
這類說法非常有水平:在表示事情還沒有糟糕到的時候這么說,會讓人立馬感受到說話者的幽默和水準。譯成中文可以這樣講:事情還沒有壞到頂;還算好;還算幸運。。。
再如:It couldn’t be worse! 簡直糟透了!
再如:It could be better. 還沒好到頂。//還可以更好些。
再如:It couldn’t be better! 簡直好極了!
