Part I Writing (參考范文)
How to Solve the Problem of Heavy Traffic
With the population explosion, the traffic in cities becomes heavier and heavier. People find it difficult to get to where they are heading for. In addition, they are more likely to be stuck somewhere in a traffic jam and even get involved in a traffic accident.
To solve the problem, there might be two solutions. The first one is to build more roads. By doing so, we can lower the degree of crowdedness in the streets and speed up the flow of traffic. But more roads will take up too much land. The second solution is to open up more bus lines. As a result, the number of bicycles and cars will be cut down. Unfortunately, it also has a drawback: it will bring inconvenience to those who live or work far away from bus routes.
In fact, the best solution as I see it is to adopt both solutions at the same time because either has its advantages and disadvantages. Only in this way can we efficiently solve the problem of heavy traffic.
Part II Reading Comprehension (Skimming and Scanning)
文章的第一段中出現(xiàn)了“…life without stress would be dull and unexciting.”和 “…too much stress can seriously affect your physical and mental well-being?!逼渲校琩ull and unexciting 對(duì)應(yīng)題中的uninteresting; physical and mental well-being 對(duì)應(yīng)physically and psychologically。
2.答案為 Y. 本題對(duì)應(yīng)文章第一段中的 “A major challenge in today's stress-filled world is to make the stress in your life work for you instead of against you.”
3.答案為N. 作者在第一段中寫(xiě)到:“Too much emotional stress can result in physical illness, …”
4.答案為 NY. 文中提到“If the stress-causing conditions continue, your body will need time to make repairs,…”,但未明確具體的時(shí)間量,所以題中的2到3天是文章沒(méi)有的信息。
5.答案為 Y. 本題是對(duì)文章中的“While it’s impossible to live completely free of stress and distress, it is possible to prevent some distress as well as to minimize its impact when it can’t be avoided.”
文章中在減輕生活中的壓力上,提出“Try Physical Activity, Share Your Stress, Take Care of Yourself, Make Time for Yourself, Make a List of the Things You Need to Do, Go ahead and Cry, Create a Quiet Scene, Avoid Self-Medication, Relax”, 但沒(méi)有給出壓力大需要去住院的建議。
8.答案為 at least a half hour。在文中小標(biāo)題“Make Time for Yourself” 段中,可以找到“Allow yourself at least a half hour each day to do something you enjoy.”??
9.答案為 to learn how to relax。在文中小標(biāo)題“Relax” 段中,可以找到“The best strategy for reducing or avoiding stress altogether is to learn how to relax.”。
10.答案為 to be calmer, healthier and happier。從文中的結(jié)尾句“The result is, you will be calmer, healthier and happier.”
Part III Listening Comprehension
11.M: I think the reason Mary didn’t apply was she was afraid of being rejected.
W: I think you’ve hit the nail on the head.
Q: What does the woman mean?
癶it the nail on the head”是“猜中”的意思,所以選項(xiàng)中的hit, nail, head都是干擾項(xiàng)。
12. W: Dear, I feel hungry now. How about you?
M: So do I. Let me call room service. Hello, room service. Please send a menu to 518 at once.
Q: Where does the conversation probably take place?
13. M: Don’t you think this candle light dinner is very romantic?
W: Sure, at least I don’t have to look at the food.
Q: What does the woman think of the food?
答案:B
解析:在女士的答語(yǔ)中,從sure可以看出她十分肯定這次燭光宴的浪漫氣氛,但at least I don’t have to look at the food說(shuō)明語(yǔ)氣發(fā)生轉(zhuǎn)折,她不喜歡宴席上的食物。
14. M: What are your comments on these plays put on by the freshmen, Mrs. Smith?
W: They certainly have made a great deal of efforts. But to be frank with you, both are not very successful.
Q: How does the woman think about the plays?
答案:A
解析:對(duì)話中詞組both are not 是部分否定的形式,意思是“不是兩個(gè)都…”。
15. W: I can’t wait to see the look on Steven’s face when he looks at his grade.
M: Neither can I.
Q: What do we learn from the conversation?
答案:A
解析:關(guān)鍵是要理解can’t wait to see 和 Neither can I,不是否定,而是“急于要看”的意思。
16. W: I think it’s high time we turned our attention to the danger of drunk driving now.
M: I can’t agree with you more. You see, countless innocent people are killed by drunk drivers each year.
Q: What does the man mean?
I can’t agree with you more. 意為:I completely agree with you.
17. W: Do you mind my turning off the television?
M: I’m in the middle of watching an interesting program.
Q: What can be inferred from the man’s response?
答案:C
解析:對(duì)話中男士所講in the middle of watching an interesting program, 意思是he is very interested in the ongoing program and wants to continue, 所以可以推斷出希望女士不要關(guān)掉電視。
18. W: It’s bright and cool today, why not go outside and have a barbecue?
M: I’d love to, but my doctor suggested I eat more vegetables to lose weight.
Q: What should the man do to lose weight?
答案:A
Questions 19 to 22 are based on the following conversation:
Conversation One
Diane: So, I hear Audrey is leaving her job.
Kate: Yeah, she’s going on to greener purchases.
Diane: Have they found someone to replace her yet?
Kate: No, I don’t think so. Why? You aren’t thinking of applying, are you?
Diane: Actually, I have been thinking of going back to work. And I wouldn’t mind my old job back.

Diane: It was a nice change from the rat race. But now that Jason is almost three—well, it’s been tough to make ends meet. I’m lucky that I could stay at home with Jason this long.
Kate: Being a working mother can be difficult. My sister is running herself ragged—getting home after a hard day’s work and then trying to do the chores and find some time to spend with the kids…
Diane: Well, I have no delusions about being Superwoman, and Phillip and I have talked about splitting chores.
Kate: That’s good. It’s hard if both partners don’t pitch in around the house.
Diane: I think I will apply for the job, at any rate. And I’ll check out a few more day cares.

Mr. Zhang: Our firm has been producing these models for more than ten years. We can usually make delivery in the required time and our conditions of sale are quite favorable.
Mr. White: I want to order 200 pieces of this model. When will it be available?
Mr. Zhang: Three months later. How are the pieces packed?

Section B
Passage One
In the past, when a child swallowed poison, you were told to make the child vomit. Things are no longer that simple. New and different chemical poisons require different treatments. If your child swallows poison, it is a good idea to call Poison Control or your doctor immediately. If you go to the hospital, be sure to take the bottle of medicine. (or chemicals ) with you.
What about those small accidents that happened every day: the stove burns, the knife cuts, and the scraped knees? You can’t always run to the doctor.
The first thing to do is to decide if the injury is serious enough to go to the hospital. If it is, go right away. Don’t wait until morning or wait for a few hours to see how you feel. If the injury is serious, go to the hospital immediately.
If you decide it isn’t serious, there are many home remedies you can use. To treat small burns, for example, many people keep an aloe plant in the house. When they burn themselves, they rub the juice of the aloe leaf on the burn. The easiest thing to do is to run cold water on the burn. To heal cuts and scrapes, there are many things you can buy in the drugstore, such as antibiotic creams. But if you get a serious cut or are cut by something rusty, you should probably go to a doctor and get a tetanus shot.

Passage Two
Advertising is the tool that has always been used to convince the public to buy products. In the beginning, it was a basic and crude tool. Craftsmen cried out to passersby, telling the quality of their products. Today, newspapers, magazines, radio, and television use a variety of means to introduce the public to the many products developed through technology.
The Romans started using recorded advertisements. They smoothed and whitened areas on a wall where advertisements could be written or carved.
In the Middle Ages, people continued to use verbal announcements and written messages, but a new form of advertising, using symbols, was developed as well. Shops displayed a special symbol to indicate what goods or services could be found inside.
The Industrial Revolution caused an explosion in the advertising field. The abundance of luxury goods, coming both from new inventions and from trade with different parts of the world, meant that consumers had to be told more about products than ever before. They had to be persuaded that they needed all these new products and that one product was superior to its many competitors. The buying public was soon being exposed to endless amounts of advertising.
29.What is the main idea of the passage?
30. How did early craftsmen advertise their products?
31. Who first started using written advertisements?
32.When did advertising first boom?

Passage Three
What will man be like in the future—in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make a guess, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today. For man is slowly changing all the time.
Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is a relatively short period of time, so we may assume or take it as true that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20 % of the brain’s capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more—and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change too: the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger. Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger.
33. What is the reason for believing that future man will be different?
34. Why will people’s heads eventually grow larger?
35. How many main changes concerning human body will there be in the future?
從原文“For man is slowly changing all the time.”
文中說(shuō):人類越來(lái)越多地使用大腦,and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change too: the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger.
Section C
When young people get their real jobs, they may face a lot of new, confusing situations. They find that everything is different from the way things were at school. It is also possible that they will feel uncomfortable in both professional and social situations. Eventually, they realize that university classes can't be the only preparation for all of the different situations that appear in the working world.
Perhaps the best way to learn how to behave in the working world is to identify a worker you admire and observe his behavior. In doing so, you will be able to see what it is that you admire in this person. For example, you will observe how he acts when he is in trouble. Perhaps even more important, you will be able to see what his approach to everyday situations is.
While you are observing your colleague, you should be asking yourself whether his behavior is like yours and how you can learn from his responses to different situations. By watching and learning from a model, you will probably begin to identify and learn good working habits.
37. uncomfortable
41. behave
43. admire
44. For Example, you will observe how he acts when he is in trouble
45. While you are observing your colleague
46. By watching and learning from a model, you will probably begin to identify and learn good working habits.

Section B
Passage One
It is an entirely different style of behavior中,可以得出正確答案是B。

Passage Two
62.C 概括題。文章有三處提及很多婦女選擇工作是出于經(jīng)濟(jì)所迫:they must work to survive, Perhaps the easiest choice has to do with economics 和Economic factors are usually the first to be considered。

Section B

43. admire
44. For Example, you will observe how he acts when he is in trouble
45. While you are observing your colleague
