終結

字號:

    An End
    by Christina Georgina Rossetti
    Love, strong as Death, is dead.
    Come, let us make his bed
    Among the dying flowers:
    A green turf at his head;
    And a stone at his feet,
    Whereon we may sit
    In the quiet evening hours.
    He was born in the Spring,
    And died before the harvesting:
    On the last warm summer day
    He left us; he would not stay
    For Autumn twilight cold and grey.
    Sit we by his grave, and sing
    He is gone away.
    To few chords and sad and low
    Sing we so:
    Be our eyes fixed on the grass
    Shadow-veiled as the years pass,
    While we think of all that was
    In the long ago.
    終結

    愛,如死一般頑強,也已經死亡,
    來吧,在凋謝的百花叢中,
    讓我們給它尋找一個安息的地方。
    在它的頭旁栽上青草,
    再放一塊石頭在它的腳邊,
    這樣,我們可以坐在上面,
    在黃昏寂靜的時光。
    它誕生在春天,
    卻夭折在秋收以前;
    在一個溫暖的夏天,
    它離我們而去,不再回來!
    它害怕秋天的黃昏,
    又冷又灰暗。
    我們坐在它的墓旁,
    嘆息它的死亡。
    輕輕地撥動琴弦,
    我們悲哀地低聲歌唱:
    “我們的目光傾注在青青的草上,
    當歲月流逝,它們也披滿了憂傷;
    眼前的一切恍如昨日,
    可是,那已是很久、很久以前!”
