B：My grandfather did that too. He used the time to study instead.
A：That's interesting. Go on!
B：My great grandfather was a merchant who ran a small business. He couldn't afford to send my grand father to school.
A：So he became a self-taught man?
B：Right. Later he was a soldier and a fireman in the village. When he was middle-aged,he became a great man, quite famous.
A：In what field?
B：As a leader of police officers in charge of the whole country.
A：Is he still in that that type of work?
B：No. He retired from that. He is a senator now.
A：Would you want to be a senator?
B：Well, maybe when I get old. But first I'll be a lawyer.
