Border Town
Border Town is the masterpiece of Shen Congwen. It ranked No. 2 of the Top 100 Chinese novels of the 20th century. It depicts the unique customs of the Chadong, a Sichuan-Hunan border village, during the 1930s.The novel's beautiful writing style of both lyric poetry and essay portrays the local traditions and customs of the Xiangxi region. Through the true love story of Cui Cui, the daughter of a boatman, it demonstrates the innocent beauty and kindness of humanity.
