The canton and county system was the two-level regional administrative system featuring canton governing county following the patriarchal enfeoffment system in ancient China. As a reflection of the centralization system in regional regimes, it was developed in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods and prevailed in the Qin and Han Dynasties.
