"The Marvelous Master of Poetry" is the nickname of Bai Juyi, a poet from the Tang dynasty. Bai Juyi (772-846), a native of Taiyuan, is a great poet of realism from the Tang dynasty. He is also one of the three great poets of the Tang dynasty. His poetic subject matter is extensive, takes various forms, and employs plain and popular language, harmonious melody, political ironies, and metaphors. His characteristic works include A Song of Everlasting Sorrow, and The Old Charcoal Seller.
