1.The weather is cold.
天冷了。
眾所周知，冬季很冷，冷到什么程度呢?除了“cold”，我們還可以怎樣形容冷?請看下面的句子：
It’s quite/awfully/severely cold.
天真冷/天太冷了/天氣非常冷。
It is biting/bitterly cold.
天冷得厲害。
It’s really piercing cold.
天冷得刺骨。
It’s freezing cold.
天寒地凍。
Notes: 一種表達(dá)方法是在cold前加上修飾語，表示冷的程度，上述的quite(相當(dāng))，awfully(非常), severely(嚴(yán)重地), biting(刺痛的), bitterly(殘酷地)和freezing(冰凍的)都加深了冷的程度。所以，除了干干地說一句“cold”，我們還可以加上這些修飾語。
下面一組句子并沒有使用cold, 而是用其他的單詞或短語來表明天氣嚴(yán)寒?？纯茨囊痪溥m合你的城市吧!
It cooled down.
天變涼了。
It became very chilly.

Notes: 這些句子中都沒有”cold”一詞，但說起來更加生動，描述性增強(qiáng)。我們可以根據(jù)實際天氣情況選擇這些表達(dá)方法。

例：
We have to cool the soup down to make the dish.
做這道菜得先讓湯冷卻。
It was not easy for her to cool down after that argument.
爭吵之后，她平靜下來可不太容易。
chilly 寒冷的，
例：
It was a chilly evening.
那是個寒冷的夜晚。
2. How do you feel?
你感覺如何?
天寒地凍，人自然不好受。立于寒風(fēng)之中，你會有怎樣的感受?
I was freezing to death.
今天凍死我了。
She shivered because of the cold.
她冷得發(fā)抖。
I have goose bumps all over in the cold wind.
寒風(fēng)中凍得我渾身起雞皮疙瘩。
I am frostbitten.
我生凍瘡了。
Notes: to death表示“極度，到極點”，
例：
The soldiers would rather fight to death than surrender.
士兵們寧愿戰(zhàn)斗到底也決不投降。
shiver既可作名詞，又可作動詞，表示“顫抖，打戰(zhàn)，戰(zhàn)栗”，
例：
She was shivering like a leaf sitting there.
她坐在那抖得像風(fēng)中的樹葉。
A shiver of joy passed through her stomach when she heard the news.
聽到這個消息，一種愉快的戰(zhàn)栗傳到她的胃里。
