I drop caps 和虛擬語氣
我們知道，在表示“建議”、“要求”、“命令”或“應(yīng)當(dāng)做……”等意義的動詞后面的賓語從句、表語從句和同位語從句中的謂語動詞需要用虛擬語氣，即用“（ should ）動詞原形”來表示。為了便于記憶，我們可以把這些動詞的首字母編成一個(gè)短句： I DROP CAPS. 這些常用的動詞是： insist 堅(jiān)持； demand 要求； desire 要求； decide 決定； request 請求； require 需要、要求； order 命令； propose 建議； command 命令； ask 請求； arrange 安排； advise 建議； prefer 寧愿； suggest 建議?，F(xiàn)將它們的用法舉例如下：
I insisted that he should come with us.
我堅(jiān)決主張他與我們一起來。
He came to my house and demanded that I should help him.
他來到我家，要求我?guī)椭?BR> He desired that you should come at once.
他要求你馬上來。
The committee decided that no one should be admitted without a ticket.
委員會決定無票者不得入場。
I requested that he should use his influence on my behalf.
我請求他為我施加他的影響力。
His health requires that he should go to bed early.
他的身體狀況需要他早點(diǎn)就寢。
The judge ordered that the prisoner should be remanded.
法官令被告還押候?qū)彙?BR> I proposed that we should start early.

The pirate chief commanded that the prisoners should be shot.

I'd prefer that she should act the young lady.

Sometimes she would suggest that I should be saving some of the money.
她有時(shí)建議我把錢存起來一些。
在這些動詞后面的從句中使用虛擬語氣時(shí)應(yīng)注意如下幾點(diǎn)：
（ 1 ）這些動詞變?yōu)楸粍诱Z態(tài)（如： It is suggested + that 主語從句）形式后，從句的謂語動詞仍用“（ should ）動詞原形”。例如：
It was arranged that they should leave the following week.
安排他們下一個(gè)星期動身。
It is ordered that the medicine should be sent soon.
根據(jù)命令藥品必須馬上送去。
It is required that you should arrive at 8 a.m.
你必須上午八點(diǎn)到。
It has been desired that the meeting should be postponed till next week.
已經(jīng)決定會議延期到下個(gè)星期開。
It was desired that this should be postponed till next week.
請轉(zhuǎn)告全體工作人員注意本條規(guī)章。
（ 2 ）由這些動詞派生的或轉(zhuǎn)換的名詞（如： suggestion 建議； decision 決定； demand 要求； requirement 要求、需要）后面的表語從句和同位語從句的謂語動詞仍用“（ should ）動詞原形”。例如：
My suggestion is that we should send a few people to help the other groups.
我的建議是我們派幾個(gè)人去幫助別的小組。
Their decision was that John should not share the room with them.
他們的決定是約翰不應(yīng)和他們分享那個(gè)房間。
The demand is that manuscripts should be written on one side only.
按照要求，手稿要單面寫。
（ 3 ）這些動詞在不表達(dá)“某事必須做或某事重要”這一詞義時(shí)（如： suggest 暗示、表明； insist 堅(jiān)決認(rèn)為），后面的賓語從句則不用虛擬語氣，而用陳述語氣。比較下面兩組句子：
① He insisted that the should attend the meeting.
他堅(jiān)決 要求 出席會議。
She insisted that she heard somebody in the house.
她 堅(jiān)持認(rèn)為 她聽到屋里有人。
② She suggested that they should start early.
她建 議 他們早點(diǎn)離開。
Her smile suggested that she was satisfied.
她的微笑 表明 她很滿意。
