For instance, when I was in high school, I always ate in the restaurant because I didn’t have enough time to cook at home. At that time, I was crazy for hamburger and ice-cream. Unfortunately, I put on weight fast and I became a fat girl. After then, I realized I should change my eating habit, so I began to save time for cooking and no longer went to restaurant. Three months later, I successfully lost weight.
這是一個(gè)沒有語病,條理清晰,敘事完整的例子,也能夠支持自己在家做飯更健康這一論點(diǎn)。那么問題在哪兒呢?大家有沒有發(fā)現(xiàn),在這個(gè)例子中,所有句子的主語都是“I"。除此之外,作者用到的句型是很單調(diào)的,大部分都是帶有狀語從句的句式結(jié)構(gòu)。而在托福寫作的評(píng)分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)中,原始分的區(qū)間是0-5分,其中3分對(duì)應(yīng)的評(píng)語里,有一條“May display accurate but limited range of syntactic structure and vocabulary”即準(zhǔn)確、但有限的句型結(jié)構(gòu)和詞匯。這也就意味著用上面這個(gè)例子就很難拿到20分以上的分值了。那句式結(jié)構(gòu)多樣化的例子長什么樣呢?我們來看看上面這個(gè)例子的一個(gè)改寫版本:
Take my experience in high school as an instance. Frequently, I dined out with friends in restaurants near school, which helped us save much time from cooking for studies and social activities. However, as the food served in restaurants, such as hamburger and ice-cream, was high in calories, I put on weight fast. The increasing weight warned me off fast food and encouraged me to cook at home. Since then, the homemade food enables me to keep fit.
在這段改寫中,增添了“which”引導(dǎo)的定語從句,插入語舉例子“such as”,轉(zhuǎn)折副詞“however”等,而且以“I”作為主語的句子減少到了兩個(gè)。這樣一來我們就達(dá)到了獨(dú)立寫作評(píng)分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)中,最高原始分5分的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)之一——demonstrating syntactic variety即句式多樣化。既然明確了問題所在和目標(biāo),我們?cè)賮硖接懸幌陆鉀Q方案。
如果你細(xì)心讀到了這里,是不是想到了一個(gè)詞——“paraphrase”(同義轉(zhuǎn)述)。沒錯(cuò),句式多樣化的重要前提就是有能力用不同的句式來表達(dá)同樣的意思。平時(shí)的練習(xí)中,我們可以通過修改自己的文章來練習(xí)這個(gè)能力。但是在考場(chǎng)上,我們并沒有重新改寫句子的時(shí)間,必須盡量一次寫好。也就是在完成段落的過程中,有意識(shí)的去變換句式。要做到這一點(diǎn),我們必須熟練的掌握多個(gè)常用的句式。那常見句式有哪些?
