The spending spree during Spring Festival pushed up food prices by 4.2 percent in January. But non-food products' prices, which comprise about two-thirds of the CPI basket, fell 0.6 percent year-on-year.

在上面的報道中，spending spree 就是指“消費熱潮”，spree在這里指一種“狂熱行為”，例如：在美國歷史上曾出現(xiàn)過 gold-rush spree (淘金熱);平時我們所說的“購物狂”，可以用 a buying/shopping spree來表示，也就是我們常說的“掃貨”。
此外，spree 還可以用來表示“狂歡、狂飲”。在比賽中，Their team went on a scoring spree and won by ten goals to zero. (他們的球隊以十比零的懸殊比分大獲全勝)，It was a glorious spree(這可是件值得慶賀的大喜事)。因此他們決定go out on a spree(外出狂歡一番)。
為了刺激消費，有時還會發(fā)放shopping/consumption voucher(消費券)。Spending spree常會帶來spending boom(消費高漲)。最近經(jīng)濟形勢不好，很多地方都在 spending cut(削減開支)。消費要量力而行，不要有大量deficit spending(透支)。
