I’d like to talk about one unforgettable historic event in the history of my country, and I bet it must be the Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan province happening 9 years ago. On 20th of May, a big earthquake with the magnitude of 8 grade hit Wenchuan, the most serious earthquake up to now. It took 80 thousands lives and more than 300 thousand people got wounded. Almost all the buildings in the area were destroyed and our country suffered trillions of RMB.
Actually, it is a national event which I think everyone, born after 2001 should know. Media coverage, no matter local paper or big nationals, of the earthquake was seen all over the shop. Everyone discussed about it all day long and was much concerned with the latest rescue and disaster relief.
To be honestly, I was 16 years old then. Although I didn’t literally feel it, I did know that the whole nation was in deep grief about this catastrophic disaster. Enveloped in gloom, our nation still chose to face it all with positive attitude and strong determination. For example, reconstruction projects were laid out straight afterwards, and inhabitants who had survived were carefully transferred to safe places. You see we got over the difficulty and became more united.
