英文當(dāng)中文講
很多咱中國(guó)童鞋寫(xiě)的郵件都是拿中文里的語(yǔ)氣直接翻譯過(guò)來(lái)的，寫(xiě)在英文里就很奇怪。舉個(gè)例子：
I applied for the Summer Analyst position at your company＇s New York office and still haven’t gotten any notice from you. Your company has been my dream employer for years，so it would be a pity if I didn’t have a chance to interview with your company.
讀到這兒就樂(lè)了，立刻能腦補(bǔ)一個(gè)畫(huà)面：一個(gè)中國(guó)童鞋一臉虔誠(chéng)的說(shuō)“我真的特別喜歡你們公司，如果沒(méi)能跟你們公司面試真的是太遺憾了！”這話(huà)中文聽(tīng)著多有誠(chéng)意啊，但直接翻譯成英文就覺(jué)得超級(jí)無(wú)敵囧。如果你想表達(dá)相似的意思，不妨試試這么說(shuō)：
I wanted to follow-up with you because I have not yet heard back regarding my application status. Your company is my first choice， so I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to interview with your team.
這樣說(shuō)比較符合美國(guó)的書(shū)面郵件說(shuō)法，而且顯得很淡定。下次記得用用看。
命令的語(yǔ)氣
很多同學(xué)在郵件里附上自己簡(jiǎn)歷之后會(huì)扔一句“Please review my resume”，感覺(jué)跟大老板扔了一沓兒材料在臉上似的。下次咱換個(gè)客氣一點(diǎn)的語(yǔ)氣好嗎？比如這樣：
I would greatly appreciate any advice you have on refining my resume for opportunities in this field.
還經(jīng)常看到有童鞋這樣寫(xiě)：
“I can’t thank you enough for your mentorship and guidance. Let’s stay in touch！”腦補(bǔ)的畫(huà)面就是被領(lǐng)導(dǎo)拍著肩說(shuō)’年輕人以后跟哥混啊！’換成這樣說(shuō)是不是好很多：
Thanks again for your mentorship and guidance. I’ll be sure to keep you apprised of any developments on my end， and I look forward to staying in touch.
那些要命的語(yǔ)法錯(cuò)誤
這里說(shuō)的都不是什么虛擬語(yǔ)氣啊那些高深的，而是最最最普通的語(yǔ)法錯(cuò)誤，拎個(gè)小學(xué)生過(guò)來(lái)都能挑出來(lái)一籮筐那種。先別狡辯，咱們一起來(lái)看個(gè)例子，截自一封收到的真實(shí)的學(xué)生來(lái)信：
Hi
I found your contact information from alumni directory.
Please allow me introducing myself firstly. My name is XXX， MSF student from University of YYY. I will graduate from my Master degree from University of YYY with major in Finance. I`m seeking forentry-level position in finance industry. May I know whether your company has opening positions or has plan to recruit in your group？
Thanks for your time. I`m looking forward to hear from you soon.
咋一看覺(jué)得還行啊，沒(méi)那么糟啊，明白他什么意思，也挺言簡(jiǎn)意賅的。
很負(fù)責(zé)任的告訴你，大多數(shù)美國(guó)的HR或者職場(chǎng)人收到這封郵件的人都會(huì)直接忽略的。原因就是那些無(wú)謂的語(yǔ)法錯(cuò)誤。
第一句話(huà)就直接吐血了。首先，先不說(shuō)這句話(huà)有沒(méi)有必要說(shuō)，正確的語(yǔ)法應(yīng)該是：Please allow me to introduce myself first.
有同學(xué)不好意思的撓撓頭，托福，GRE，GMAT都是好幾年前考的了，語(yǔ)法早還給老師了，allow somebody是to do還是doing確實(shí)不太記得了。
理解。給你介紹一位隨叫隨到的語(yǔ)法老師：Google。
如果你去google一下，你就會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)“please allow me introducing myself”是完全搜不到任何結(jié)果的！反而能搜到不少“please allow me to introduce myself”這個(gè)正確的說(shuō)法。所以說(shuō)查錯(cuò)真的有這么難嗎？沒(méi)有，只是你懶！
關(guān)于這第一句話(huà)，再啰嗦一句。這句話(huà)完全可以刪去，不用跟說(shuō)評(píng)書(shū)似的先來(lái)句‘上回說(shuō)到！’，直接從My name is XXX開(kāi)始一點(diǎn)問(wèn)題都沒(méi)有。
咱們繼續(xù)往下看。下一句話(huà)，額，MSF student前面少了個(gè)a。而且虹姐再說(shuō)一句，專(zhuān)業(yè)這種縮寫(xiě)建議大家盡量避免，人家哪知道MSF是啥意思啊。你可以寫(xiě)成‘a(chǎn) graduate student in the Master in Finance program at University of YYY.＂
下一句和下下句的錯(cuò)誤都是可以在google一查就查出來(lái)的?！皐ith major in Finance”應(yīng)該改成“majoring in Finance”。再下一句中“I`m seeking for entry-level position in finance industry”應(yīng)該改成“I am seeking（沒(méi)有for）an entry-level position in the finance industry.＂ 而且，這句話(huà)有些突兀了，尤其在和不認(rèn)識(shí)的聯(lián)系人第一次郵件，盡量避免提job， internship， position這些比較扎眼敏感的詞。你可以用更婉轉(zhuǎn)的方式來(lái)表達(dá)，比如“ I am looking for entry-level opportunities to start my career in the finance industry＂。這就好像你單身，你可以說(shuō)你是悲催的單身狗，也可以跟人家說(shuō)你正在期待下一次的緣分。一個(gè)意思，不同境界。
最后一句話(huà)是最經(jīng)典的錯(cuò)誤了！10個(gè)童鞋有9個(gè)半都犯過(guò)！Look forward to DOING sth. Look forward to DOING sth. Look forward to DOING sth.重要的事情說(shuō)三遍。還有同學(xué)經(jīng)常寫(xiě)成 I am look forward to do sth.，無(wú)力吐槽。這句話(huà)可不能再錯(cuò)了啊??！
