二、雷丁大學的歷史
Our origins lie in the Schools of Art and Science established in Reading in 1860 and 1870. These became part of an extension college opened in 1892 by Christ Church, Oxford. The college thrived, receiving its first treasury grant in 1901. Three years later the local Palmer family, of the famous biscuit manufacturer Huntley & Palmers, donated our London Road campus that is home to our Institute of Education today. We received a Royal Charter in 1926, the only university to do so between the two world wars. At the same time, Dr William M Childs became the University's first Vice-Chancellor.
Since then a number of milestones have shaped the University's history and made us the centre of excellence and vibrant community that we are today. In 1947 we purchased our main Whiteknights campus, the former country estate of the Marquis of Blandford. In 2008, the University's merger with Henley Management College gave us our Greenlands campus on the River Thames. These together with our historic London Road campus, are amongst the most beautiful places to study in the UK.

1.School of Agriculture, Policy and Development
We are world leaders in teaching and research, maintaining a reputation developed since the 1800's. Our focus is to provide the individuals and knowledge to address the major challenges and opportunities in our sector for the 21st century. We address food production, the sustainability of agro-ecosystems, food security, adaptation and mitigation to climate change, food chains and health, animal welfare and behaviour, poverty alleviation, international development, and consumer behaviour and choice.
Our School comprises about 160 staff, and is located in a state of the art building on the Whiteknights campus which houses our research groups of Agri-Environment; Crop Production; Applied Economics, Marketing and Development; and Animal, Dairy and Food Chain Sciences; and the Graduate Institute of International Development, Agriculture and Economics (GIIDAE). Many of our specialist research centres are also located here or on our farms nearby. The School is also a significant contributor to the University-wide centres for Food Security, Climate Change, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research, and Poverty, Exclusion and Access. In addition, our links with other institutions, many of them overseas, allow research to be conducted in temperate, Mediterranean, and tropical climates in more than 50 countries by research students, university staff and their cooperating and collaborating counterparts.
