二、香港城市大學(xué)的歷史
1980年11月，港督尤德爵士(Sir Edward Youde)委任了一個(gè)檢討香港專上及工業(yè)教育委員會(huì)。該委員會(huì)在1981年6月建議，為了適應(yīng)時(shí)代發(fā)展，香港應(yīng)全面加強(qiáng)專上教育，立即展開第二間理工學(xué)院的籌劃工作。
1982年6月，香港理工學(xué)院校董會(huì)成員獲委任為第二間理工學(xué)院的籌備委員會(huì)成員，并正式委任鐘士元爵士為籌備委員會(huì)的主席。
1982年5月，"大學(xué)及理工資助委員會(huì)"在倫敦召開第一次會(huì)議，隨后提交《第二理工學(xué)院第一號(hào)報(bào)告書》，建議新理工學(xué)院命名為"香港城市理工學(xué)院"(City Polytechnic of Hong Kong)，并認(rèn)為新理工的校址應(yīng)參考英國的做法，設(shè)于 人口稠密、主要交通網(wǎng)絡(luò)可達(dá)到的地區(qū)，在九龍?zhí)烈环s12公頃的土地上建設(shè)永久校舍。委員會(huì)同時(shí)決定應(yīng)盡早在1984–85年度于臨時(shí)校舍內(nèi)開課，以待永久校舍的落成。
1983年初在全球展開招聘首任院長的工作，英國盧保路科技大學(xué)(Loughborough University of Technology)首席副校長莊賢智教授(Professor David Johns)獲委任為首任院長。
1984年根據(jù)《香港法例》第1132章"香港城市理工學(xué)院條例"于九龍旺角成立香港城市理工學(xué)院。最早期的校舍位于今日旺角的工業(yè)貿(mào)易署大樓。
九龍?zhí)劣忠淮暹_(dá)之路的永久校舍落成后，于1990年起陸續(xù)遷入新校舍，并把原校舍轉(zhuǎn)交香港公開進(jìn)修學(xué)院作校舍用途。學(xué)校獲得政府撥地，把原歌和老街臨時(shí)房屋區(qū)的地段作為未來學(xué)生宿舍的位址。
1995年獲政府授予自我評(píng)審(self-accrediting)資格，并正名為"香港城市大學(xué)"。
1997年，在原威靈頓中學(xué)舊址設(shè)立九龍灣分校，專門為自資副學(xué)士、展翅計(jì)劃及毅進(jìn)計(jì)劃的學(xué)生提供上課地點(diǎn)。
2014年11月1日，舉辦慶祝建校30周年活動(dòng)，成立"香港城市大學(xué)基金"。
