Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings is a global university performance table that judges world class universities. CDU was ranked in the top 251-300 universities in the world.
CDU’s strongest pillar was Citations where it ranked in the second decile, coupled with a strong result for International Outlook.
On a national level, CDU ranked joint 10th out of the 31 Australian universities that made the list.
The performance indicators are grouped into five areas:
Teaching – the learning environment (30%)
Research – volume, income and reputation (30%)
Citations – research influence (30%)
International Outlook – staff, students and research (7.5%)
Industry Income – knowledge transfer (2.5%)

CDU was named as one of the top universities in the world under 50 years old, in the prestigious THE rankings. CDU rose 21 places to be ranked 48th in the world in the 2015 Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 list.
The table employs the same 13 separate indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, but the 100 Under 50 Rankings methodology has been carefully re-calibrated to reflect the special characteristics of younger universities, giving less weight to subjective indicators of academic reputation.
Phil Baty, rankings editor at THE says it provides a glimpse into the future, showcasing not those institutions with centuries of history, but the rising stars which show great potential. “The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 is a global showcase of a new breed of institution – those that are developing at an exceptional rate and that have managed to join the world’s top table in a matter of years rather than centuries” he said.
This is the fourth year THE has released a global list of the top 100 young universities and is the fourth time that CDU has claimed a place. CDU Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharon Bell said the global ranking was a great endorsement of the quality and excellence of research programs at the university.

QS World University Rankings 2015-2016
Since first being compiled in 2004, the QS World University Rankings have expanded to feature more than 800 universities around the world, with far more (over 3,000) assessed.
The rankings compare these top 800 universities across four broad areas of interest to prospective students: research, teaching, employability and international outlook.
These four key areas are assessed using six performance indicators:
Academic reputation (40%)
Faculty/student ratio (20%)
Citations per faculty (20%)
Employer reputation (10%)
International student ratio (5%)
International staff ratio (5%)
CDU achieved an overall score of 91.4% and a ranking of 86 globally in the area of international students. It is ranked 25th amongst Australian universities and is in the top 551-600 of participating universities internationally.

QS also releases a list of QS Top 50 Under 50 annually to rank universities, which have been established for not more than 50 years. Based on the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings, the QS Top 50 Under 50 aims to highlight fast-developing young institutions making a rapid impact on the global ranking tables.
For the first time, 2015 also sees the publication of the ‘Next 50 Under 50’ – casting additional light on the higher education sector’s fastest-rising stars. The ‘Next 50 Under 50’ are ranked in bands of 10.
In 2015, CDU ranked in the top 91-100 universities under 50 years old and ranked 14th within Australia recognising CDU as a dynamic young organisation in the higher education space.
