Swinburne offers English language courses that can help you meet the minimum English language requirement for study. On successful completion of English for Academic Purposes at Swinburne, you may be granted direct entry to your chosen degree, diploma or certificate provided you also meet other (academic) entry requirements.

Alternative English language entry
There are also a number of alternative ways to meet the English language requirements for courses, depending on where you completed your secondary education.
you may not require a standard English test score to apply for a Swinburne course if you:
had English as the language of instruction during previous education
have completed a GCE A Level
have completed an International Baccalaureate
have studied English in certain European countries.

Applicants with English as the language of instruction
Secondary and/or tertiary studies at an institution where English is the only/main language of instruction and assessment may qualify students to meet the English language requirements for study at Swinburne.
Students must have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of two years of full-time study (four standard full-time semesters), not more than two years prior to commencing your studies at Swinburne.
Documentary evidence in the form of a letter or transcript is required from the institution at which the study was undertaken. Each application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

If you plan to complete an English language course in preparation for another course, tick ‘Yes’ on your application form when asked 'Do you intend to undertake English language studies at Swinburne?'. Complete that section of the form and indicate your start date and the number of weeks of English language classes you will undertake.
Make sure you have the following documents for your application:
certified copies of previous academic results
certified English language proficiency test results
letters from schools or employers
portfolio for design courses, excluding Swinburne Foundation Year (Design).
If you are applying for credit, you should include certified and translated (English) copies of the course outline from your previous or current course.
You can submit your application directly to Swinburne or through an authorised representative in your country.

English language courses are offered at a range of levels. When you submit your application, make sure to attach certified copies of your IELTS or TOEFL test results.
