Admission Requirements
Secondary School Requirements
Applications from international students will be reviewed on an individual basis.
We require graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent with an average of “C” in five, senior academic-level/university preparatory courses.
Transfer Students
Students with previous post-secondary studies will be reviewed on an individual basis.
Applicants are required to list ALL previous post-secondary institutions attended on the application for admission, even where no transfer credit is sought.
Students must be in good academic standing at their current institution if they wish to transfer to Cape Breton University. This means that they cannot be on academic dismissal or academic suspension.
Individual program admission requirements must be met. A student may be required to supply a secondary school transcript if the equivalent subject requirements were not completed during post-secondary studies.
Transfer students may be eligible for advanced standing at CBU based on previous study.

How to apply for your Canadian education at CBU
When you are ready, you can apply online at www.cbu.ca/apply. The application fee for international students is $103 (CAD).
Submit official transcripts from secondary school and any post- secondary schools you may have attended.
If applicable, please have your official English language proficiency score reports sent directly to CBU from the testing agency. We will issue conditional acceptances to students who have not yet completed their English training if they meet our academic admission requirements.
Students who have attended a post-secondary institution and would like to be considered for transfer credits (advanced standing) must complete an application for credit transfer assessment.The application fee for this is $52 (CAD).
Completed files will normally be reviewed within two weeks (a file is considered complete once the application, fee and official/supporting documents are received). We will send a letter of acceptance by email, and the original will be mailed to the address on the application form.
Please keep us informed of any changes to your contact information. The transfer credit assessment can take two to eight weeks after an offer of admission is sent.

Specific Deadlines
January 10: Application deadline for Bachelor of Education.
February 28: Application deadline for Bachelor of Science Nursing. English proficiency requirements must also be met by this date.
March 1: All complete applications from students in their final year of secondary school are assessed for entrance scholarships. Interim transcripts showing grades to date and the courses in which you are currently registered must be received by March 1 for consideration.

CBU offers a number of certificate and diploma programs that vary in length from 1-2 years of academic study. Admission requirements for these programs are the same as for related undergraduate degree programs. All courses must be senior academic-level /university preparatory or equivalent with a minimum average of ‘C’, unless otherwise noted.

Post-Baccalaureate Programs
The following bachelor’s degree programs normally require the completion of an undergraduate degree or diploma for admission:
Bachelor of Education: Contact Amanda Windsor for information. Note: applications are due January 10 and the program begins in May of each year.
Bachelor of Technology (Emergency Management): Completion of a diploma or degree (or equivalent combination of education and work experience). Applicants must submit a cover letter, statement of interest and resume or curriculum vitae (cv) along with transcripts and an application for admission.
