When you live in student housing, you're in the center of student life. KU offers nine residence halls with a variety of rooms, 12 scholarship halls that emphasize cooperative living, and two apartment complexes. You have many options. Most freshmen live in student housing, so you'll make friends from all over.

Residence
hallsKU's nine residence halls offer two-person traditional rooms and four-person suites. You can tour the residence halls in person when you visit or take a virtual campus tour.

Create your own community: Be a "schol haller"
Our 12 scholarship halls create close-knit communities of students. About 50 students live in each schol hall, and they cook and clean their hall in exchange for a reduced housing rate.
This lower rate is considered a form of scholarship, but students don't have to receive a scholarship to live in one of the schol halls. They do, however, have to maintain a 2.5 GPA and take at least 28 credit hours a year.
Scholarship halls have their own personalities and one-of-a-kind traditions and events like the Amini Weenie Roast and the annual International Dinner.

On-campus apartments: Get the best of both worlds
KU operates two apartment complexes: Jayhawker Towers, for single students, and the all-men Marie S. McCarthy Hall apartments. Both provide greater privacy than other KU housing and offer the benefit of being on campus.
Jayhawker Towers
Home to 750 students, this apartment complex of four towers contains two-bedroom apartments shared by two or four residents.Amenities include wireless Internet, on-site staff, KU Card-operated laundry, optional meal plans, and rental furniture packages.
Marie S. McCarthy Hall
The new apartment complex at 1747 Naismith Drive is now scheduled to be open for student move-in on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015. The building is a three-story structure located south of Hogland Ballpark near Allen Fieldhouse.It will house 38 male residents in two-bedroom/two-bath and four-bedroom/two-bath apartments. Each apartment consists of a living room, dining room and full kitchen. This building is an apartment complex for single non-traditional students, upperclass students, and transfer students with at least 30 credit hours.Each apartment consists of a living room, dining room and full kitchen. McCarthy Hall will offer continuous occupancy (summer contracts are available.) Construction began in September 2014.

Your KU Card provides you ease and convenience at any of these venues:
Three residential dining centers (Mrs. E’s, Oliver dining, and North College Café in GSP)
Six retail cafes (the Underground, the Market, Crimson Café, the O’zone, Studio, ?and Mortar and Pestle Café)
Four coffee and smoothie shops (The Roasterie Coffeehouse)
Seven snack bars (Jay Break Food Stops)
A full service restaurant in the Kansas Union (Impromptu)
Students living off campus or in on-campus apartments are eligible to purchase campus dining plans. Dining plans are included in residence hall contracts, and students should select the plan that best fits their busy schedules.

Buses
KU students with a valid KU ID may board any KU or city fixed route bus for free. Use Lawrence Transit's Guide to Ride to plan your route around campus & town. KU on Wheels also offers: SafeRide, SafeBus
Bicycles
KU's campus and the city of Lawrence are bicycle-friendly. During class hours, campus is closed to general traffic except for KU buses and bicycles. Plan your route for riding to class with our campus map.
Cars
KU's Parking & Transit Department issues and enforces all on-campus parking rules, regulations and permits for cars, motorcycles and mopeds. Because the campus is pedestrian-friendly, it is not necessary to have a car or other vehicle at KU.
Airplanes
Out-of-state student? Or just needing to get away for a weekend? The Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is about a 45-minute drive and shuttle services from Lawrence are available

Intramurals, sports clubs, & Rec Services activities
As a KU student on the Lawrence campus, you're automatically a member of a first-rate health club — Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center. Your membership is included in your Required Campus Fee.
Recreation Services runs the student rec center, a sports complex, a pool, and an outdoor education center. You're eligible for Rec Services fitness activities, intramural sports teams, sports clubs, and other programming.
So whether you're a beginner who wants to get fit, a seasoned athlete in peak condition, or someone who just wants to drop in to play racquetball or basketball, you'll find what you need.
