Entering Undergraduate School for a Bachelor's Degree
In April 2016, Tokyo Tech became the first university in Japan to establish Schools that encompass undergraduate and graduate education. Schools offer seamless curricula between bachelor's and master's programs and master's and doctoral programs. Right from enrollment, students can clearly envision the possible academic paths that may be taken, allowing them to make diverse choices and challenges according to their interests and pursuits. Students who complete the credits of the courses required by their departments are eligible to graduate and receive a bachelor's degree. International applicants may be admitted to Tokyo Tech via the methods detailed herein. Lectures for Bachelor's Degree Programs at Tokyo Tech are conducted in Japanese.
International applicants may undergo the same screening as Japanese applicants by taking the National Center Test for University Admissions and the Tokyo Tech general entrance examination. Alternatively, international applicants may be admitted under the status of International Students. In order to do so, they must take the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), administered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), and Tokyo Tech's Special Screening Examination for privately funded international students.
For applicants who have graduated or are expected to graduate from a college of technology or a junior college, an Undergraduate Transfer Entrance Examination is offered. This examination comprises two categories, General Screening and Special Screening. Transfer is possible in the 2nd or 3rd year for the School of Science, the School of Engineering, the School of Chemical and Materials and Chemical Technology, the School of Computing, the School of Life Science and Technology and the School of Environment and Society.
Entrance examinations are also offered prior to arrival in Japan for Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, hereafter MEXT) Scholarship Undergraduate Students who have been recommended as candidates for undergraduate studies at a Japanese university by the Japanese embassy or consulate in their home country, and for students in the Japan-Korea Joint Exchange Program in Science and Engineering.

Special Screening Examination for privately funded international undergraduate students
Individuals who wish to be admitted to Tokyo Tech should pay close attention to the information below before applying. Lectures for Bachelor's Degree Programs at Tokyo Tech are conducted in Japanese. Individuals who wish to enroll as undergraduate students must acquire sufficient competence in Japanese prior to admission. Eligibility
Applicants who satisfy all of the following conditions are eligible to apply
1.Persons who are not of Japanese nationality.
2.Persons with a status of residence that poses no obstacle to university admission under the Immigration -Control and Refugee -Recognition Act of Japan, and to whom either of the following applies.
a.Persons who have completed 12 years of school education overseas or will complete them by March of the year of admission, or persons specified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (excluding international schools in Japan approved by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as providing the same courses as in Japanese high schools) (Note 1)
b.Persons who have obtained or are going to obtain a Swiss International Baccalaureate (awarded by the International Baccalaureate Organization, a foundation established under the Swiss Civil Code), a German Abitur (recognized in all states of Germany as qualification for university entrance), or a French Baccalaureate (recognized in France as qualification for university entrance), a General Certification of Education (A Level), a qualification for university entrance recognized by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and other countries by March of the year of admission and who will be 18 years of age by March of the year of admission.
c.Persons who have completed a regular 12-year education at an institution which based in out of Japan approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (based in the state of California in the United States of America), the Association of Christian Schools International (based in the state of Colorado in the United States of America), or the Council of International Schools (based in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) by March of the year of admission and who will be 18 years of age by March of the year of admission.
3.Persons who have taken the "EJU" (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students) in Japanese as a Foreign Language (Listening, Listening/Reading Comprehension, Reading, Writing) and basic academic proficiency in Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Course 2 Mathematics (may be taken in either Japanese or English)) administered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) in the previous year of admission, and attained a score of 260 or more points out of a total of 450 in Japanese as a Foreign Language and 280 or more points out of a total of 400 in Science.
(Test scores may only be used once, either in June or in November.)
