One University, two cities

Admission requirements
High school students
High school students applying to undergraduate programs at UNB must meet the following three sets of requirements in order to be considered for admission:
English language proficiency requirements
Direct entry: International students require an IELTS 6.5 or equivalent for direct entry into most academic programs. (Someexemptions apply.)
Conditional admission: International students who do not have an English test score, or who still need to improve their English skills, may be accepted into an undergraduate program on the condition that they will complete full-time English Language training at UNB before starting their degree.
Country specific admission requirements
UNB accepts qualified applicants from all countries. Applicants must have completed their national high school curriculum or equivalent. Please refer to the country-specific admission requirements.
UNB welcomes and encourages applications from International Baccalaureate (IB) students, Advanced Placement (AP) students, and GCSE students.
IB: Students who complete higher level IB courses and achieve a score of 5, 6 or 7 may be eligible for advanced standing and/or transfer credit in the following subject areas (except where otherwise indicated): Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English, French, Geography (Fredericton campus only), German (Fredericton campus only), History, Math, Physics (minimum score of 6 is required in Physics on the Fredericton campus).
AP: Students who complete AP courses and achieve a score of 3, 4 or 5 may be eligible for advanced standing and/or transfer credit in the following subject areas (except where otherwise indicated): Art History (Saint John campus only), Biology, Calculus (minimum score of 4 is required in Calculus), Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English, French, German (Saint John campus only), History, Human Geography (Fredericton campus only), Physics, Psychology (Fredericton campus only), Spanish, Statistics (Saint John campus only).
Other subject areas: Students who have successfully completed IB or AP courses in subject areas other than those listed above may apply to have those courses assessed for advanced standing and/or transfer credit on a case-by-case basis. Copies of official curricula will be required.

Transfer students
UNB welcomes and encourages applications from students wishing to transfer from another University or post-secondary institution.
In addition to meeting UNB’s regular admission requirements, transfer students seeking credit for earlier post-secondary work must submit a detailed overview of their program of study, as well as official course outlines for each course they have completed. Transfer credits will be determined on a case by case basis, in accordance with UNB Faculty standards. Transfer applicants should apply early to ensure time for faculty to review course outlines. ? ?
All applicants must disclose any prior attendance at a University or other post-secondary institution in Canada or abroad, regardless of whether they are seeking transfer credit. Failure to disclose this information may result in a rejection of the student’s application or subsequent suspension from UNB.

English Language Proficiency Requirements
Direct entry: International students require an IELTS 6.5 or equivalent for direct entry into most academic programs.
Exemptions: An international applicant is not required to submit proof of English Language proficiency if:
The applicant has studied in a high school in Canada for a minimum of 1 year and has achieved a minimum of 70% in Grade 12 English (ENG4U/EAE4U or equivalent course); OR
The applicant has studied in an English speaking high school for a minimum of 1 year and is applying from one of the following countries:
American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Island, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Malta, Mauritius, Monteserrat, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pacific Island Trust Territory, Ryukyu Island, Seychelles, Republic of Singapore, Republic of South Africa, St. Helena, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Virgin Islands, Zambia, Zimbabwe. The applicant has studied in an English language school (secondary or higher) for a minimum of 3 years or can offer one of the following tests or qualifications:
o GCE A Level English Literature with minimum grade of C
o Norway English 3rd Year Upper Secondary with minimum grade of 4
o Sweden English 3rd Year Upper Secondary with minimum grade of VG
o Denmark English 3rd Year Upper Secondary with minimum grade of 10
?In all cases, UNB reserves the right to require proof of language proficiency before permission will be granted to register in academic courses.
Conditional admission: International students who do not have an English test score, or who still need to improve their English skills, may be accepted into an undergraduate program on the condition that they will complete full-time English Language Training at UNB before starting their undergraduate degree. Conditional admission still enables students to obtain a study visa into Canada.

Fredericton campus
The Program of Academic English Preparation (PAEP) is UNB Fredericton’s EAP-Bridging program. It is delivered by the internationally renowned English Language Programme (est.1950). Academically admissible students to UNBF who do not meet the full English language requirements for undergraduate entrance to the Fredericton campus are candidates for PAEP.
PAEP students benefit from: all UNB support and services, weekly academic advising, residence accommodations, sports facilities and eligibility for UNB’s entrance scholarships. Full-time language studies incorporate class hours, homework, tutorials and advising involving 35+ hours a week. The program commences three times a year: September, January and May.
Saint John campus
Students who are conditionally accepted to the UNB Saint John campus complete their English Language Training at Saint John College. Saint John College students progress through six levels of English training: Levels 1 to 5 comprise the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program; students who reach Level 6 enter the ESL Support Program and are able to enter academic courses on a 'sheltered' basis.
Students are tested and placed upon arrival and may not need to start at Level 1. Each level is eight weeks long and involves approximately 35 hours of class/lab time per week. Students can begin their English training in January, March, May, July, September or November.
