To offset some of the costs of a university education, UNB offers millions of dollars in scholarship support each year.
The University of New Brunswick welcomes all International students who study at our campuses. International students can be considered for scholarship support upon admission to UNB as well as throughout their years of undergraduate study at UNB. The primary consideration for scholarship support at UNB is academic achievement so keep your grades up and study hard!
All students interested in being considered for scholarship support need to apply to be considered. Eligible international students include high school applicants, students transferring from another post-secondary institution as well as students continuing their studies at UNB.

1.International High School Students
Apply by Mar. 1
International students who are applying to UNB directly from high school need to apply for scholarship support using the general scholarship application. This application covers all of our scholarships available to international high school applicants who are starting an undergraduate program at UNB. International students who apply for scholarships and have been admitted to a UNB degree program on the basis of their high school marks are considered for scholarship support ranging from $500 and higher. Applications are accepted after the deadline of March 1, but opportunities will be limited.
You'll find your scholarship offer in your UNB admission letter. We include the scholarship and the admission offer in the same letter to help you obtain your student visa easier. Any changes made to the scholarship offer will be sent via email.
Received a Scholarship?
Congratulations! Respond to your scholarship offer by responding to your offer of admission. Accepting your offer of admission is the same as accepting your scholarship offer. Deadline is May 15.
Is my scholarship renewable?
The answer is - it depends on you!
Your scholarship offer for your first year at UNB is based primarily on your high school grades (scholarship average). To be considered for entrance scholarships, apply by Mar 1.

Put yourself in the best possible position to compete for scholarships by filling out all of the fields that are applicable to you.
The application opens in your eServices on Jan. 1 with a deadline of Apr. 15 each year.
Set your academic goals high
Funding starts at $1,000 for a 3.7 scholarship GPA. The amount increases as the scholarship GPA goes up. We only review your grades from the previous assessment year (scholarship GPA), so every year is a fresh start!
Enroll full-time
Complete 24 credit hours each assessment year (May to April).
Preference is given to Dean's list students or students with a 3.7 scholarship GPA however all students are encourages to apply.
Scholarships are awarded primarily on your grades; however, some scholarships have additional criteria such as financial need, extracurricular activities, the high school you attended, the program you're in, etc. Scholarship criteria is usually reflective of the goals and values of the donor.
Final grades even better? Good for you!
When you graduate, ask your high school to send your final official high school transcript to UNB Admissions. We will revisit the calculation of your scholarship average. You must request reconsideration by emailing us. Please note that a request for re-calculation does not guarantee any change to your scholarship offer and is dependent upon available funding.

If you're an international student who has completed at least 24 credit hours at UNB, you can be considered for scholarship support as a continuing UNB student. Apply every year!

If you're a continuing student at UNB (Canadian or international) and would like to be considered for scholarship support, you need to apply every year.
If you’re returning to study full-time in the upcoming year and have completed 24 credit hours at UNB in the past assessment year (May-April) or were enrolled in the co-op program, complete the scholarship application in your eServices (Academic tab). The application is open every year from Jan. 1 to Apr. 15 and covers the majority of UNB scholarships (500+) for both campuses. If you’ve been studying part-time and plan to attend full-time in the upcoming year, complete the application and email us stating your intentions.
Other awards
Aside from the general scholarship application, you can apply for the scholarships listed below either through your eServices or by emailing the appropriate department/faculty. These applications ask for additional information about you which directly affects the awarding decision.

What grades do we review for scholarships?
For high school students, we calculate a Scholarship Average* which is the Admissions Average** plus bonus points for completed IB, AP and/or enriched grade 11 and 12 courses. Bonus points are added directly to the Scholarship Average, as long as a mark of 75% or higher is achieved in the course.
One bonus point for 1 to 3 enriched courses
A maximum of two bonus points from 4 to 6 enriched courses
A maximum of three bonus points for 7 to 9 enriched courses
A maximum of four bonus points for 10 or more enriched courses
* The Scholarship Average is not rounded. In other words, a 79.9% average does not become an 80%. If you did better during your last term of high school and would like to be reconsidered based on your final marks, please submit your request for recalculation toUndergraduate Awards.
**Admissions Average is the average of the 6 courses required for admission to the student's program of choice.
For transfer students and students entering the Bachelor of Education, we want to know how you did in the most recent year of study (full-time).
For continuing students, we use the Scholarship Grade Point Average as a basis for awarding scholarships. A Scholarship GPA is calculated at the end of the assessment year (May to April) provided that 24 credit hours or more have been attempted, regardless of program. For students involved in work placement programs such as Co-op or PEP, the scholarship average is calculated using the Dean's List criteria. This GPA is held internally and is not displayed on the student's transcript.

What is financial need?
Financial need is considered for many scholarships and must be demonstrated on the scholarship application form if you want to be considered for those scholarships. We can only make decisions using the financial information that is provided by you on the application. If no financial information is provided, then we have to assume that you do not have financial need.
To determine whether or not a student is in financial need, consideration is given to family income, number of dependents supported by the family income, number of dependents attending university in the upcoming year, student’s spouse's income, number of student's dependents, student loan and/or other pertinent financial details provided by the student. Feel free to provide us with additional information in the "other details" box.
Do I need to attach a resume?
It is not necessary to attach a resume. The information you provide on the application form is what will be considered first so you should concentrate on making it your first impression.
How do I receive UNB scholarship funds?
Scholarships are applied to your UNB student account. Half of the annual value is applied in fall and the other half in the winter. It acts as a credit against your tuition and compulsory fees.
You can view your scholarships in two places in your eServices:
(1) Scholarships Awarded (academic tab) – this shows your scholarship name, value and how it will be applied to your student account.
(2) Fee Statement (financial tab) - scholarships will appear on your fee statement in late August (fall term) and early January (winter term) approximately the same time as tuition and fees. If you have questions about your fee statement contact Financial Services.

I will graduate from UNB in May. Should I apply?
No. Only students who are planning to attend UNB full-time as an undergraduate student in the upcoming year should submit an application.
I will complete my degree requirements in December. Should I apply?
Yes. You will receive the fall portion of the scholarship.
I don't need to attend full-time both terms to finish my degree in May. Can I keep my scholarship?
If you attend full-time one term and part-time in the other term and your faculty verifies that you will complete your degree requirements in May, you might be eligible to keep your scholarship. Please contact the Undergraduate Awards Office to discuss your situation.
I will graduate in May and begin my Education or Law degree at UNB. Should I apply?
Yes. The Bachelor of Education and Juris Doctor are undergraduate degree programs. You will be considered for scholarship support based on the grades you achieved in your previous UNB undergraduate degree.
I am in an articulated degree program (Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Applied Management in Hospitality and Tourism, Bachelor of Applied Arts, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science). Should I apply?
Yes. Students in articulated degree programs are eligible for scholarship support under special regulations.
What if I drop to part-time?
Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in 12 credit hours or 4 courses at UNB each term in order to keep their scholarship. This is also the minimum amount of credit hours (24ch) needed to be assessed for scholarship opportunities the following year. It would be best to discuss your situation with the Undergraduate Awards Office first.
