Tuition fee and other fees
Every semester, Bachelor's and Master's students receive an invoice, which they must settle in order to remain matriculated with EPFL. You will find more information about the new electronic invoicing on the page Semester invoicing.
The total amount due per invoice is CHF 633:
CHF 580 in tuition fee
CHF 25 in AGEPoly membership
CHF 16 in contribution to the sports facilities
CHF 9 in contribution to the social fund
CHF 3 in contribution to the disability and death insurance
Students who do not wish to be AGEPoly members may ask the association for the corresponding CHF 25 to be refunded to them. The other fees are compulsory and may not be waived or refunded.
Students not undertaking any credited study work for a whole semester (leave of absence or internship credited with the Master's project) are exempted from the tuition fee and must therefore only pay CHF 53 for that semester. This does not apply to students who obtain credits outside of EPFL (academic mobility or internship worth 30 ECTS credits), who must pay CHF 633.
Students who are at EPFL in academic mobility as part of an exchange, a double diploma, or a joint diploma must still pay the fees due to their home institution. They are therefore exempted from EPFL fees, unless specified otherwise in the relevant agreement.

The cost of living is very high in Switzerland
A typical budget is as follows :

* For students in architecture the budget is higher due to the study visits. Additionnal annual budget has to be added of around 1500.- CHF during the first year, 800.- CHF during the next years.
** The amount for Swiss people and resident is higher, depending on the insurance broker, the canton and the insurance premium. The minimum is 250.- CHF/month.
*** Billag: In Switzerland, you are legaly obligated to pay the radio and television fees. By paying the fees you enable radio and television programmes in every part of Switzerland.
Meal: A full meal costs 8.50 CHF at a university restaurant. Budget for a minimum of 600.- CHF per month for food.
Supplies: The cost of school supplies varies greatly. Initially students will sometimes have to purchase equipment such as drawing materials, a calculator, a computer, etc. The course photocopies provided by EPFL will limit the costs, but it is necessary to account for a minimum of 1'200.- CHF per year in order to be able to study without relying too much on libraries or other people's equipment.
Leisure: Leisure represents a necessary part of the budget in order to maintain a personal balance and to extend your general culture. It costs around 30.- CHF to see a show and 16.- CHF to go to the cinema.
