The International Foundation Programme (IFP) in Humanities and Social Sciences offers a clear route to undergraduate study. It prepares students for degrees in Humanities and Social Sciences, including Law, Business Management, Economics, International Relations, Politics, Comparative Literature, Linguistics, Languages, Film Studies, History and Geography.

How is the timetable structured?

Your exact timetable depends on the combination of subjects you choose to study, but classes typically begin at 9am or 10am each day, and end at 5pm although classes may run after 5pm. To allow time for students to move around campus between classes, a QMUL university hour is fifty minutes. Students can expect to spend at least 20 hours on campus each week, with contact time allocated as follows：

10 hours per week of English Language and Study Skills classes, including Personal Development sessions - 10 hours per week plus a 15-minute one-to-one tutorial every two weeks.
Between 5 hours and 7 hours 30 minutes per week of academic subject lectures and seminars per week (depending on options chosen) plus the option of one-to-one tutorials during the Lecturer's Office Hours.

What are the class sizes?
The maximum class size for English Language and Study Skills is 18; however, the average class size is 14. There is no maximum class size for academic subject lectures, but seminars usually have no more than 20 students per class.
