精算師(actuary)是做什么的?
未來是不確定的。某些事件的發(fā)生是不可預測的。所謂"風險"就是不可預測事件發(fā)生的概率。因此，精算師是解決列下問題的專家: 1、評估未來事件發(fā)生的概率; 2、開發(fā)新方法來減少不可預測事件發(fā)生的概率; 3、減少不可預測事件發(fā)生時所產生的影響。
精算師是研究新方法，控制金融風險的專業(yè)人員。所以，他們主要在保險公司工作，近來，越來越多的精算師進入咨詢公司，政府部門，商業(yè)銀行，投資銀行，從事風險管理工作。
美國大學精算專業(yè)進來比較熱門，這個專業(yè)小而專，在美國開設精算研究生項目的學校不是很多，大概1000多所大學中只有近百所大學開設精算專業(yè)的本科課程，開設碩士課程的大學大約27所，開博士課程的不到10所。以下是美國開設精算的學校：
