A Broken Chair
壞椅子
Zhang Ying-Ying sits just in front of me in class. In the last two days, hardly a moment hasgone by when I sit in my chair that I do not feel a little ashamed and grateful. You may askwhy I feel like that. Let's go back to two days ago. This is what happened.
張瑩瑩就坐在我的前面，這兩天我一坐在椅子上，就感到一絲羞愧和幾分感謝。也許你會問為什么會這樣，讓我們回到兩天前， 事情是這樣發(fā)生的。
I went to school that morning earlier than usual. When I went to my seat, I found my chair wasbroken. Bad luck! I said to myself. I looked around and found nobody else in the classroomthen. I changed the chair with Ying-Ying's as quickly as possible.
那天我比平常早到學(xué)校，我來到座位，發(fā)現(xiàn)椅子壞了。真倒霉，我自言自語地說。我往四下看看，教室里一個人也沒有，我盡快把椅子與瑩瑩的對換。
A few minutes later, Ying-Ying arrived. She stood there for two minutes when she saw thebroken chair. The two minutes were so long to me that I didn't dare to look up. Instead ofsaying any thing, she left and came back with a hammer and nails. She began to repair it.
幾分鐘過后，瑩瑩來了，當她看到壞椅子時，她站在那兒足足兩分鐘。這兩分鐘對我來講太長了，我不敢抬頭看她。她沒吱聲，轉(zhuǎn)身離開，拿了小錘和釘子回來，開始修理椅子。
My face turned red. I stood up to give her a hand. Her thanks for my help made me feel soashamed for my behavior that I couldn't help speaking out the truth. On hearing it, she saidwith a smile, "You are honest. That is good. As to the broken chair, it is you and me who fixedit together. Forget it." We both laughed.
我的臉紅了，我站起來去幫忙。她對我的感謝使我羞愧萬分，我禁不住說出實情。聽了我的話，她笑著說：“你很誠實，這就好。至于這把壞椅子，是你和我一起修好的，別放在心上。”我們倆都笑了。
