韓國的基礎教育包括小學6年，初中3年，高中3年共12年；高等教育?？?—3年；本科一般4年，醫(yī)科（含韓醫(yī)、牙醫(yī)）6年；研究生教育分碩士和博士兩個階段：碩士一般為2年，博士一般為3年。韓國實行四級學位制：專門學士學位、學士學位、碩士學位、博士學位。
?？飘厴I(yè)發(fā)畢業(yè)證書，同時授予專門學士學位；4年制本科畢業(yè)后發(fā)畢業(yè)證書，同時授予學士學位；醫(yī)科6年畢業(yè)后發(fā)畢業(yè)證書，也授予學士學位，但可以申請攻讀博士學位。
韓國實行?？平逃臋C構稱“專門大學”；實行本科教育的機構為“大學校”（一般為綜合性大學）或者“大學”；實行研究生教育的機構為“大學院”，“大學院”多數(shù)設在大學校里，也有單獨設立的“大學院”。
韓國的高等教育機構根據設立形式和經費來源渠道，分為國立、公立、私立三種，除個別公立學?？梢杂稍O立的地方政府自行批準外，都必須經教育科學技術部批準，國家認可的高等教育機構都必須接受教育科學技術部的監(jiān)督和管理。
韓國高等教育機構的授課語言通常使用韓語，也有少數(shù)課程的授課語言為英語。
2011年韓國共有認可的?？拼髮W（韓語稱“專門大學”，英語名稱一般使用College）146所，提供本科和本科以上教育的四年制大學195所，單獨設立的只授予碩士、博士學位的大學院20所。
韓國的“學院”(韓語稱“學院”，英語名稱一般使用Institute 或College )主要是由社會力量創(chuàng)辦的非學歷教育機構。
