依據(jù)《全日制義務教育英語課程標準(實驗稿)》(以下簡稱《課程標準》)的目標要求，在七、八年級所學語言知識的基礎上，本冊教材要求學生進一步學習和掌握一些有關語言知識內容。
1、學習和掌握的詞語
本冊教材中有270個左右的詞匯和短語是《課程標準》要求學生學習和掌握的。 2、學習和掌握的語法
要求學習和掌握的語法知識有:情態(tài)動詞(must, might, could, can, should, etc.);情態(tài)動詞的被動語態(tài)(should be allowed to);被動語態(tài)(questions and statements);現(xiàn)在完成時態(tài)(with already and yet);賓語從句(Indirect questions);定語從句(Relativeclauses with that and who)等。
要求學習和掌握的常用的表達結構有：by doing something;used to do something;I would …, if I …;hope to …;I'd like/ love to …;prefer …;I'd rather do …;I wish …;I feel/ think/ believe/ agree that …;be supposed to … 等。
