1. die from 死于……，因……而死。如：
He died from a heart attack. 他死于心臟病發(fā)作。
Many villagers die every year from snake bites. 每年都有許多村民死因被蛇咬而死亡。
2. die of 死于……，因……而死。如：
Her grandfather died of cancer. 他祖父死于癌癥。
The animals died of starvation in the snow. 這些動物在雪地里餓死了。
注：關(guān)于 die from 與 die of 的區(qū)別：有人認(rèn)為若死因存在于人體之上或之內(nèi)，一般用介詞 of; 若死因不是存在人體之內(nèi)或之上，而是由環(huán)境造成的，則一般用介詞 from。 但在現(xiàn)代英語中兩者?？苫煊?。
4. be dying for sth [to do sth] 迫切想要(做)某事。如：
He is dying for something to eat. 他極想弄點東西吃。
She is dying to know where he has gone. 他迫切想知道他到哪里去了。
5. die away (聲音、風(fēng)、光線等)漸息，漸弱。如：
THe breeze has died away. 微風(fēng)漸漸止住了。
The sound of the car died away in the distance. 汽車的響聲消失在遠(yuǎn)處。
6. die down (慢慢)熄滅，平靜下來。如：
The fire died down. 火慢慢熄了。
His anger has died down a bit. 他的怒氣已消了一點。
7. die off 一個一個地死去(=die one by one)。如：
As he grew older, his relatives all died off. 隨著他年齡的增長，他的親人都一個一個地死去了。
8. die out (家族、種族、習(xí)俗、觀念等)滅絕，絕跡。如：
Many old customs are dying out. 許多舊習(xí)俗正在消失。
