一、基本用法
why not…后接動詞，其意為“你為什么不……呢”，它主要用于提出建議。如：
Why not use both? 為什么不兩者都用?
Why not write from Lisbon? 干嗎不從里斯本寫信?
But why not write him from Lisbon? 干嗎不從里斯本給他寫信?
You’re looking tired. Why not take a holiday? 你一臉倦容，怎么不休假呢?
比較：
何不坐地鐵去?
正：Why not go by subway?
正：Why don’t you go by subway?
我們碰個頭討論一下這件事不行嗎?
正：Why don’t we meet and discuss it?

二、用法注意
該結構通常只能用于現(xiàn)在或將來，而不能用于過去。如：
你昨天為什么不打掃房間?
誤：Why not clean the room yesterday?
正：Why didn’t you clean the room yesterday?
