美國(guó)中學(xué)分為公立和私立兩種。公立學(xué)校對(duì)美國(guó)當(dāng)?shù)貙W(xué)生是免費(fèi)的，國(guó)際學(xué)生如需就讀公立學(xué)校，只能通過專門的交流項(xiàng)目申請(qǐng)入學(xué)，而且必須交納學(xué)費(fèi)，就讀時(shí)間不能超過一年。私立學(xué)?？梢悦嫦驀?guó)內(nèi)和國(guó)際學(xué)生招生，國(guó)際學(xué)生的比例按學(xué)校不同有很大區(qū)別，但所有學(xué)生的收費(fèi)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)是一樣的。
每年美國(guó)都有私立寄宿學(xué)校根據(jù)SAT平均成績(jī)的排名。SAT(Scholastic Assessment Tests)測(cè)驗(yàn)是美國(guó)高中學(xué)生能否進(jìn)入大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)的決定性考試，相當(dāng)于中國(guó)的高考。它分為SAT I 和SAT II 兩種，是由美國(guó)大約4,300 所大學(xué)組成的文教組織--美國(guó)大學(xué)委員會(huì)(The College Board)委托教育測(cè)驗(yàn)服務(wù)社(Educational Testing Service，ETS)定期舉辦的世界性測(cè)驗(yàn)。美國(guó)各大學(xué)會(huì)參考此成績(jī)，決定是否接受學(xué)生的入學(xué)申請(qǐng)。liuxue86.com
